Task 2 Writing - 350 word essay
It's been a while since I last posted new material. I've been receiving watsapp messages on how to tackle this component.
Please read the 2 main notes for this post on writing.
Below is a sample question:
Some
people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of
society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.
Discuss both views and give your opinion. Write at least 350 words.
Note 1. When you read the question, what do you look out for? I often hear students tell me the "key words". What are the key words. Well, they are basically 2 main pieces of information; the subject of the question and the task of the question.
In the question above, the topic is "who is responsible for the teaching of kids? teachers or parents" and the specific task is to write about both views.
Note 2. Here's a sample of the body paragraph. It should be written in the PEE form. (I've written on this before, please refer to these http://muettuition.blogspot.com/2012/11/muet-writing-opinion-essay-sample.html and http://muettuition.blogspot.com/2013/05/muet-writing-task-2-how-to-write-body.html )
Many people think that parents
play the most essential role when it involves bringing up their children to be
contributing members of society. They think that the
parent has the closest relationship with their child or children, therefore it
makes them the most qualified in moulding their children’s character and
demeanour. For
instance, it is
natural for parents to have a bond with their children and they instinctively
desire the best for them. This, creates a desirable scenario as the
parent would allocate sufficient time, effort and cost which would ensure that
their children receive the necessary knowledge and education which would
provide them the foundations and makings of a contributing member of society.
THE MUET - What should you do?
Over the past 2 weeks, I've been receiving watsapp messages and emails on the MUET. From really general questions, like "How do I score for MUET?", "Any tips on MUET writing?" and "How to prepare for MUE"T?"
For those who need a general answer on how to start your preparation, please read this 10 weeks before the MUET. Read this >> http://muettuition.blogspot.com/2014/02/tips-for-muet-candidates.html. Why 10 weeks? MUET is a language paper. For those who need to improve from Band 2 to 3, Band 3 to 4, be fair to yourself and your teacher, it takes time.
For those who need specific help on writing, reading, speaking, listening, please use the search box to find the info you need.
For those of you who are reading and searching for information 2 or 3 weeks before the MUET, my advise is to buy past year papers or model test papers and complete them.
For those of you who are looking for information the day before MUET without any prior study or preparation, I would like to say just do your best. If you obtain the band you need, good for you, if you don't get the band you need then try again. All the best to all!

Important! New MUET requirement.
Hi all, news on MUET and requirement for a place in university.
Students must now obtain MUET Band 3 for a place to study Arts and Social courses, MUET Band 4 for a place in any STEM courses, and MUET Band 5 for Law and Medicine courses.
However, do check with the university which you are keen on entering, as they may set higher requirements than the education ministry's ruling.
Below is an extract from a news article from the New Straits Time paper.
